TRANSDERMAL DIFFUSION SYSTEM

The LOGAN System 913 is a modular design automated transdermal sampling system to save valuable time by delivering precise transdermal samples into HPLC vials or sample tubes automatically. This system includes the SYP series Syringe Pump(s), the DSC-800 system controller, and the SCR-DL sample collector. For studies, the membranes mounted between the cell cap (donor) and the cell body (receptor). The membranes bathed from below by an isotonic saline solution. Temperature can be maintained at a target temperature from room temperature to 45℃ by LOGAN’s VTC-300 water heater circulator which pumps the water into a six-outlet manifold. This water enters the lower part of the water jacket surrounding the saline solution chamber. Water circulates out through the upper port by two (upper and lower) manifolds connected to a constant temperature bath.

The homogenous distribution of the temperature in the saline bathing solution is accomplished by the agitating motion of a Teflon-covered magnetic stir bar, driven by an external magnet mounted on timing motor. The cell cap is open air exposing the upper membranes surface to ambient conditions. The open cap also allows for a finite dose application of the compound studied.

At the sampling point, the DSC-800 system controller commands the SYP series Syringe Pump module by withdrawing and measuring sample volumes from the transdermal diffusion cells at each time interval. Individual samples are dispensed simultaneously into HPLC vials that store in the SCR-DL series sample collectors. The replacement media takes place right after each sampling to avoid sample dilution. The LOGAN FDC-6T transdermal diffusion cell drive console has patented the Bubble Free Cell (BFC) and design, which has a motorized tilting device. The BFC has a tiny vent hole on top of the receptor chamber, and the cells tilt when replacement media enters into the cell. All air bubbles are automatically purged out through the vent holes, and the cells are returned to the horizontal position after the purging occurs.

In some cases, the sample in the donor must seal, a round glass disk is provided for this application. Logan Instruments also offer different size gaskets to control the test sample volume.

The SYSTEM 913 can be designed with six cells (913-6) or twelve cells (913-12).
